After three years of neglect and cutbacks by the Liberal Government, Labor will restore tourism to the heart of Australia’s economic narrative, recognising its importance as a super-growth sector for local jobs and the economy.
Tourism is Australia’s largest services export and employs over one million Australians. There are more than 276,000 tourism businesses in Australia, which deliver $94.5 billion in revenue every year.
Tourism GDP increased 5.3 per cent in 2014-15, more than three times the growth for the total economy. This trend is expected to continue over the next 20 years – but a coordinated approach by the Federal Government is essential to realise its full potential.
