Technology-Supported Learning — ABC Splash

Technology provides ever expanding opportunities for learning – at home and at school. But to make the most of these opportunities, parents and teachers need access to quality materials that are safe, engaging and linked to the curriculum.

ABC Splash brings the archives of our national broadcaster to life in an interactive format that can be used by teachers in the classroom and students at home.

Labor will support the ABC to continue developing new educational material for the Splash platform.

This will provide teachers new and exciting options for the classroom. It will also give parents peace of mind – with more safe, fun and educational online activities to support children’s learning at home.

The Abbott-Turnbull Government’s savage cuts to the ABC have put the future of this valuable educational resource at risk. The ABC has managed to maintain the site with residual funding, but this is due to expire in mid-2016.

In the absence of up-to-date Australian content, teachers and students will be forced to rely on products from overseas – compromising opportunities for student to learn about the world in the context of Australia’s unique voice and history.

A Shorten Labor Government will invest in ABC Splash so that it can continue to create world-class digital educational content that can be used by teachers, parents and students.
